The Little Girl that Joined the Sides of the Giants
Tonight marks my first night of EMT training, which is every Monday,Wednesday, and Saturday for the next 11 weeks. I am in for a fun time I’m sure. Every class night you are given between 3-5 chapters to read and a quiz will be given on those read chapters the following class. **Then I go and commit myself to also do the 50 Book Challenge this year, for my own pleasure.**
Well tonight’s class was pretty basic and there is still a lot left in the air to how this class will run. We sat for 3 1/2 hours and followed a slideshow. Like they say, death by power point, it almost did kill me. Not to bad though, we went over Blood Borne Pathogens and HIPPA. Pretty dry stuff but very important common knowledge all should know. I’m looking forward to Saturday, our CPR class. Always wanted to take the class, but never took the time and it’s great to know CPR. Other than that there was not much else to class tonight other than a few instructor forced jokes that are hardly ever fun, but we all must laugh because we want good grades. =)
I learned after today I have 11 weeks to toughen my act up. I arrived early to class today and I’m sitting there waiting and thinking of the other people. It never occurred to me that, HELLO, of course this would be a male dominant class. All the guys start flowing in and I’m wide eyed staring at the door hoping for the next person to be a female. Most that know me, know I’m 4”11 and pretty small framed. I’m looking at all these guys and I just wan to run out of the class like the little girl I am. Haha! Not kidding at all. A few from a fire academy class are taking this course and they are talking away with one another. I hear about the crazy party last weekend, the party coming up this weekend, the girl that was wearing a skirt while bowling with the guys, and just all sorts of stuff I could’ve done without hearing. I started thinking that I couldn’t do this. I couldn’t be the only girl in the class. I don’t want to buddy up to these guys and talk the lingo. I’m not ready to not be a girl. I can’t compare to these big guys. With some luck in walks the first girl. Yay for girls!!!! I felt so much better just to see her. My head came out from the clouds and I could breathe a little better. I can do this. After that 4 more girls walked in by the time class started. It is quite a class there is 52 students and 6 of them are females. Yikes!
All in all, I am looking forward to the next 11 weeks, I made a new friend today and I’m positive I will have quite a few more by the end. We were told we will all know each other very well. lol We’ll see…..Off to study quiz on Monday on Ch.1-4.
