Push Hard and Fast
Woohoo let’s catch a CAB!
Had class today from 8am-5pm and I am wiped out. Today was all CPR, first half was lecture and the second half was hands on. I don’t believe I have ever been more nervous and red-faced than today. Getting up in front of others is such a problem for me, just from thought that others could possibly laugh or talk about me. lol Silly I know, but I’ve never been comfortable with this until I get to do it a couple times.
So today they drilled in our heads how important it was to pay attention, take lead, make decisions, and know every step to proper CPR. As of last year there are new ways to due CPR. With tons of studies and research they have concluded that instead of the ABC’s (Airway, Breathing, Compression) instead what is more affective and saving more lives is CAB (Compression, Airway, Breathing) Compression is the key factor and man is it tiring. I think I nearly had a heart attack doing compression today. I learned I really need to get fit because my small frame and really tiny hands don’t pack a lot of punch. Fixable though so no worries, I’ll get it done.
First part of class was done with and we moved on to the second part of doing role playing in pairs. One took lead and the other followed then we would swap roles. This is what runs my nerves and makes me cherry red from the face. I stepping into this group not knowing one person afraid to look stupid in front of them and ruin my impression with them. I have a lot of confidence when I know what I am doing, but never in the beginning. After maybe two *red-faced* times of me being lead I had it down and it was on. I was the little lady saving lives and getting that heart pumping. Learned a lot today and met a few new people. Enjoyed my group and we are told we will be in many more groups this quarter so get ready to know everyone in the class. =) Aside from all the seriousness today we had just a little fun with some cpr related videos.Ken Jeong-Hands Only CPR
Baywatch-Can we say how we don’t want to do CPR! lol Never put your mouth on the patient.
Class is starting off great and today has given me a lot more confidence. I’m feeling good. Now I must study my big book of knowledge. First test is coming up on Monday. A whole set of new nerves hahaha. I will for sure be a changed person after this training. =)
